Dear All

On behalf of Fourways Martial Arts Academy, it gives me great pleasure to announce that the 15th Interschool Karate championship was a success. On the 16th October 2016, the Portuguese Hall hosted this event. With 500 competitors representing more than 50 schools, from as far as Cape Town, Durban and Gauteng is perhaps, one of the most popular tournaments on the karate calendar. With over 90 individual divisions and 1100 individual performances from the competitors, the interschool has built a reputation of being well organized that starts and finishes on time as per the scheduled program. This Interschool Karate is also well represented in the three major styles of karate in the country such as Goju-Ryu, Shotokan and Shito-Ryu.

Congratulations must be given to the Instructors for supporting this event and sending big teams such as the following top ten schools...

  1. Bellville School: - 22 competitors, with 47 points
  2. Cape Town School: - 23 competitors, with 45 points
  3. Mandalay Primary: - 31 competitors, with 44 points
  4. St Stithians: - 40 competitors, with 35 points
  5. Kriel Cambridge: - 29 competitors, with 34 points
  6. Christ Church Prep: - 27 competitors, with 27 points
  7. St Catherine’s:- 17 competitors, with 23 points
  8. Linksfields: - 21 competitors, with 20 points
  9. Summit College: -15 competitors, with 18 points
  10. KPS: - 10 competitors, with 16 points
  11. Redhill School: - 20 competitors, with 16 points

Well done to the top school Bellville School, which deserved to take the top spot by coming first with 47 points, second place Cape Town School with 45 points and third place is Mandalay School with 44 points, lastly St Stithians for a fourth place with 35 points.

I would also like to thank all the Referees, Judges, Table Officials, instructors and the rest of the work force that contributed to this event. Keeping in mind that it is all voluntary work. Obviously without these people this event would not exist. I would like to give a special thanks to. Royce Imaging Industries for their contribution towards the Floating Trophies. Thank you once again, to all the suppliers that added to the atmosphere of the tournament such as Action Photo (photographer), TAQA Sportswear, the caterers, Cucina con Gusto, the medics, Ernst Viljoen (PA System), Stephan Coetzee Zinc Tech security guards.

Last but not least I would like to thank the Portuguese Hall.

Slowly the aim and objective is filtering through to schools that Karate is a force to be reckoned with, as far as its popularity and benefits are concerned. Therefore nursery schools, primary and high schools will hopefully give Karate the opportunity that it deserves. That is, giving the recognition to the students and their achievements in Karate. Hopefully in doing so, karate can be recognized as an official sport at schools, starting at grass route level and just as strong as the other leading sports in South Africa.

In short, from myself, I would like to thank everyone and those that I had forgotten to mention and looking forward to hosting the 15th Interschool Karate Championships next year October 2017.

Again I would like to congratulate everyone that supported the Interschool karate Championship this year as it was a huge success with plenty of positive feedback from parents and competitors.

Special thanks to all that contributed to hard work and enthusiasm etc. Thanks to all the Schools and instructors that pushed for this event.

Last but not least, a special thanks to the Instructors and schools from Cape Town and Durban for making this wonderful event.

To all my Volunteer’s from Fourways Martial Arts, Goju Karate Academy and Ismaa, thank you for giving up your time to making this a success.

I hope to see you all back next year!!

Karate First!
